Marsin Alshamary is a publish-doctoral research fellow with the International Coverage method. Her investigation focuses on Iraqi politics, Iraqi-U.S. relations, Shiite political activism, as effectively as civil culture and social movements in the broader Center East. When at Brookings, she is working on her e-book, which examines the job of Shi’a clerics in Iraqi protest movements across the previous century. Alshamary is also a nonresident fellow at the Institute of Regional & Worldwide Experiments at the American University of Iraq – Sulaimani.
Prior to Brookings, Alshamary was a pre-doctoral fellow with the Middle East Initiative at the Harvard Kennedy University. She has a doctorate in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technological innovation, with a thesis titled: “Prophets and Monks: Spiritual Leaders and Protest in Iraq”. Whilst at MIT, Alshamary was also a member of the Stability Reports Program, where she worked on quite a few jobs relating to civil society and spiritual authority in Iraq.
Alshamary’s study is based mostly on constant fieldwork in Iraq and Lebanon.
