Deposition answers issues of how late UM health practitioner survived firing

Five months after College of Michigan Dr. Robert Anderson was fired for allegations of sexual misconduct, the doctor’s colleagues learned about a change in his work. 

But the 1980 memorandum did not mention Anderson’s dismissal. As an alternative, it outlined how Anderson would “step down” as director of University Overall health Service, continue being on personnel as a senior health practitioner and also serve as director in athletic drugs.

“We are very grateful for the high-quality administrative and health care management Dr. Anderson has supplied in the course of his many years at Wellness Company,” the memo states.

The memo was a single of numerous files that emerged in a depositionthat was received by The Detroit News pursuing a joint stipulation agreement filed late Monday in U.S. District Court.  

The deposition answers some of the queries of how Anderson survived a firing, landed yet another significant-profile situation, got a raise and remained employed by UM for another 23 years, allowing for him to allegedly sexually abuse hundreds of learners. 

The witness in the two-working day deposition was Thomas Easthope, the former UM associate vice president for scholar solutions, who said he fired Anderson in 1979 following a colleague alerted him that Anderson had sexually assaulted a lot of homosexual male learners in test rooms.

Easthope said he marched in excess of to College Health Service in August 1979 and confronted Anderson with the allegations. The physician did not deny the statements, and Easthope reported he fired Anderson on the place.
